Muon Analysis UI on Mac nigglies

Reported by: Michael Reuter Owned by: Robert Whitley
Priority: minor Milestone: Release 2.0
Component: Mantid Keywords:

Description

There seems to be some spacing issues with the text boxes in the Instrument section on the Home tab. They come out too short and only show part of the last digit. All of the text boxes on the Plot Options tab suffer from the same problem. There's also an issue with the middle spinner in the second line of the Detector Grouping. It doesn't seem to show the dash nicely like it does in Linux. Also, the Load current run button on the Home tab is too short (Linux & Mac) and doesn't show all the text.

Here's the run down on the issues:

  1. text boxes in Home/Instrument: fixed, text labels on second box too short.
  2. text boxes in Plot Options: still too short
  3. middle spinner in Home/Detector Options: fixed
  4. Load current run button: fixed on Linux, but not Mac

Only one Muon user who I know of have a mac laptop, hence decision is to move this ticket into next iteration.

Russell I couldn't figure out how to CC you in on this ticket update hence to insure you get email I have made you owner. Do not hesitate to pass back later

Copy of email exchange earlier today:

Hi Anders,

I think question number 1 is: do any of your muon users have Macs? If not, I would certainly move the ticket into the next iteration. Even if some do, it doesn't sound like any of these issues actually prevent the interface from working, in which case I would still move it to the next iteration, and I promise I'll get back to you after the testing is done.

Sound OK? Russell

Hi Russell,

Hope it is going well in US.

Trying to satisfy this ticket: hxxp://trac.mantidproject.org/mantid/ticket/3251 which was reopened yesterday.

Talking to Martyn he mentioned that you may have (expert) experience on getting a custom interface to look the same on both Windows and Mac?

Fixes which would improve the similarity between Windows and Mac for MuonAnalysis includes:

1) use larger default width for the custom interface on mac

2) use a smaller fond size for the text labels on mac

However, rather than hardcoding such values into the MuonAnalysis code can you think of a better way?

Cheers, Anders

In [15050]:

Refs #3251. I have improved on the initial layout making it usable on the Mac. I have tried to make the interface as small as possible so that it doesn't look terrible for Windows users. I have also included help buttons on both the plotting tab and data analysis tab so that the help pages cover the entire muon interface. (Note: The wiki pages are still to be created)

I had a look at this on the Mac, and it looks quite good now. Kudos for the effort put in!
