File browse dialog problems on Linux

The file selector box in Mantid plot often goes to the previous directory rather than the one clicked on. I am running on the SEQUOIA computer.
Apparently, when in a file browse dialog, moving around can be erratic. Trying to go up a level can go back to the original location instead. Double clicking on a directory can take you somewhere else. This was on Linux. The double-clicking problem may relate to being in a directory with many sub-directories, such as an archive.
Of course these are generic dialogs from elsewhere so it's hard to see what we might be able to do....
