Cosmetic improvements to simple GUI

Description

Other minor quick-wins to give the interface more appeal. For example, ensure that all views are well aligned and sized. Provide logos, splash screens, background colours etc.

This is undoubtedly a nebulous ticket and we should certainly address this again when we have some drivers in a particular direction. However, any minor improvements will make a huge difference to useability and satisfaction during use.
