Hidden algorithm categories are not saved

Description

Spencer has reported: 

I'm doing Mantid > Options  to change the Als shown in the menu.
using Apply button does the change but it does not appear to save the change.
Next time I start up it's as before.

Tested on version 2.1.1 this appear to work fine, at least on Windows 7 64 bit. Some changes were made in this area in V2.1.1 so I suspect this has been solved.

From Spencer again 

Using View>Preferences>Mantid>Options to remove entries in the list isn't saved properly.
I thought this was corrected.
It looks as if the problem is with those entries with sub-lists - these changes are not saved.

The problem is a \ vs
problem.

We save it as \, but on reading this is translated and needs to be

to test hide a subcategory or two (do test multiple, I haven't).
