Description

This is the problem that Richard Heenan is getting.

Suggested course of action:

  1. update his graphics drivers
  2. create a minimal QT app to reproduce the problem
    1. If reproducible try posting example on QT boards, QT4.5
    2. if not then try qtiplot without mantid to reproduce, email Qtiplot developer

Francis Pratt had this problem and solved it by updating his graphics card drivers:

OK, the graphics card on my desktop is an ATI FireGL V3100,

Original driver version 8.563.0.0, dated 10/12/2008 Installed an updated driver from the ATI website, version 8.583.0.0, dated 11/02/2009 seems to fix the problem

My laptop had the same window freezing problem with the mobile version of the same card, ATI Mobility FireGL V3100 updating the driver from the Dell website to version 8.353.1.1000, dated 8/5/2007 also fixed the problem

And here's Richard Heenan's workaround:

A long story ... skip to at end if you are in a hurry ...

I have a Radeon HD2400 Pro graphics card which did have driver 8.530.0.0 dated 28/8/8

I did a “find updates”, and got 8.852.0.0 dated 3/2/9, still no joy.

Then went to AMD website and downloaded some software which installed 8.600.0.0 (of 16/3/9, yes really a lower version number)

This worked erratically, and then I made a discovery !

Window re-sizing in Mantid does not work on my pc if Microsoft OUTLOOK is running (even when minimised) !

This I think explains why it worked briefly last week with the original graphics drivers.

Finally today, after Googling a bit, I discover that I can get Outlook and Mantid to co-exist !

Right click task bar and select “cascade windows”, this seems to sort out the issue of windows not wanting to resize.

  • type changed from enhancement to defect

Richard again:

Well this week my “cascade windows” fix does not work ! - I have to close Outlook completely to get the Mantid windows to resize ... and as soon as I start Outlook again the windows won’t resize ...
