Description

This is the part of the ticket #5552 as substantially simplifies the logic behind the list of boxes to split.

In addition to that, it has its own merits as allows further expansion of box controller and would simplify some usages of MDWorkspace (e.g. naturally expanding the MD workspace limits if requested.

The work on the ticket revealed range of problems with MD workspace implementation and need in different approach for working on ticket #5552.

In addition to that, current state of the code build on this ticket caused some difficult to detect memory leaks. This is why I am reverting the changes done on this ticket and leave them on branch for further investigation.
