Description
In the process of fixing the speed of the Peaks List table display, the table columns have become very badly messed up on OSX. See attachement, which shows that the table defaults to. We wouldn't want to release with it like this.

Re #7375. Calculate character width differently.

To test: Just look at the peaks table on mac.

I've already tested this on the mac and it works, so I'm going to test it on windows, and check that it's coming out there right too.
