Fix crash when plotting workspace group and child workspace

Description

Load a WorkspaceGroup (for example the POLREF file from autotestdata). Expand the group. Select the group and a child workspace by holding down Ctrl. Right click either the group or the child, and click "Color Fill Plot".

This sometimes crashes and sometimes works.

Refs #8331 - Fixes crash.

Removed some code that wasn't being executed, removed some code that was being executed erroneously, and simplified what remained.
