Description
There are several disparate components involved and this is still work in progress, but better sooner than later there should be a piece of general documentation about the system (call it architecture, components, etc.). Include the following points:
- File formats and standards: FITS, NXtomo, the NeXus format for settings in DLS's SAVU.
- Reconstruction methods/algorithms and what you need to know to set them up (plugins, parameters, etc.).
- Autoreduction for IMAT.
- Running reduction jobs on SCARF, remote algorithm(s) to do this from Mantid.
- GUI and visualization.

In #10564 I'm adding an RST for the "TomoReconstruction" custom interface that should include all the details relevant to users. This covers the (under development) GUI, basic information on file formats and tools, and user documentation.
As there are still a few practical and operational details to sort out for IMAT, I don't think we will get close to a basic document for this in less than a few weeks. Documents relevant to this ticket are being added here: https://github.com/mantidproject/documents/tree/master/Design/Imaging_IMAT, and a very initial general document is here: https://github.com/mantidproject/documents/blob/master/Design/Imaging_IMAT/IMAT_general.md.
