Ran this by creating a workspace using CreatePeaksWorkspace and saving it to file and the log changes worked fine.

However when I attempted load a HKL file using LoadHKL and then Save the workspace back out using SaveHKL with minimal options and I got the following error: 

Error in execution of algorithm SaveHKL:
bad lexical cast: source type value could not be interpreted as target

I'll pass this ticket as the commit changes are clearly unrelated, but it's perhaps worth investigating even if just to add a clearer error message.
